Suno Download Permission Errors: What Each Message Means
Five Suno download messages decoded: no permission to download, out of downloads, WAV not on your plan, a button that does nothing, and links that stop working.
Suno download failures almost always arrive as a message, and the messages mean different things. Some say the track is not yours, some say your plan does not include that format, some mean the link you saved has expired. Working out which of those you are looking at is most of the fix.
The short answer
- "You don't have permission to download this one" - the track is not in your account, or the link you are holding has expired.
- "WAV downloads aren't available on your current plan" - WAV is a paid-plan format; MP3 still works.
- "You're out of downloads" - the free plan includes a small lifetime allowance; paid plans refresh monthly.
- The button works but nothing happens - a browser extension is blocking the file, or a large WAV is still being prepared.
- A link that worked yesterday is dead - download URLs are time-limited. Fetch a fresh one.
1. "You don't have permission to download this one"
This is the most misread message of the set. It is not a payment error and it is not a rate limit - it means the file you asked for is not yours to download from that page.
| What you did | Why it happens | What works |
|---|---|---|
| Opened a link someone shared with you | Playback and download are separate permissions | Ask the owner for the file itself |
| Used a remix or cover made by another account | The derivative belongs to the account that generated it | Generate your own version from the same idea |
| Reused a download link you saved earlier | The signed URL expired | Open the song again and take a new link |
2. "WAV downloads aren't available on your current plan"
WAV is the lossless export and it sits behind paid plans. The message is about the format, not about the song: on a free account you take the MP3, and if you need WAV for an edit or a mix, that needs a paid plan. Nothing is wrong with the track.
3. "You're out of downloads" (or the counter never refreshes)
| Plan | Download allowance |
|---|---|
| Free | 7 trial downloads, for the life of the account |
| Pro | Around 20 per month |
| Premier | Around 60 per month |
| Premier plus Studio | Unlimited |
Extra downloads can be bought. The counter is sometimes behind after a purchase and catches up on the next page load; a different browser or a VPN does not reset a plan allowance.
4. The button does nothing at all
- An extension or ad blocker is eating the request - try a private window with extensions off.
- Pop-up blocking - some clients open the download in a new tab instead of saving it.
- WAV is being prepared - lossless files are several times larger than MP3 and are built on request.
- On a phone, the file may be landing in the Files app rather than your music library.
5. A saved link that used to work
Download links are signed and time-limited: they behave like a one-time pickup token, not a permanent address. Bookmarking the link instead of the song is the usual mistake. When you need the file again, go back to the song page and take a fresh URL rather than reusing or hand-editing the old one.
What actually works
- Fetch a new URL from the song page every time you need the file.
- Do not hand-edit a download URL - one changed character usually returns access denied.
- Start with MP3. It is smaller, faster and available on every plan.
- If the song is not in your account, no tool gives you a legitimate download of it.
Downloads on Suno-API
Songs generated on Suno-API are a different case: MP3 and WAV are both free, there is no download counter, and the files are served from our own media URLs, so an expired upstream link cannot block you. See MP3 vs WAV: which to download for the format choice, and where downloads are saved if the file is not turning up.
FAQ
Does a new account give me more free downloads?
No. The free allowance is per account and it is a lifetime trial count, not a monthly refresh.
Can I download a song someone shared with me?
Only if their share settings allow it - playback and download are separate permissions.
Why is the first WAV download so slow?
Lossless files are much larger than MP3 and are prepared on request, so the first request takes noticeably longer.
Doing it now
If you need a file today and your account is out of downloads, the fastest route is a platform that does not meter them. On Suno-API a generation costs 0.6 yuan and returns two tracks; MP3 and WAV downloads are unlimited, and signing up takes an email address rather than a phone number.
¥0.6 per generation, 2 tracks, unlimited downloads
Runs on the Suno V6 engine. Download MP3 or WAV as often as you like. Signing up needs an email address, not a phone number.
