What Is Suno Studio? Editing Tools Explained

Updated 2026-09-13 · Suno-API team

Suno Studio edits songs you already made: trim, change speed, split stems and add backing tracks. See what each tool does and what it costs.

Generation is only the first step. Once a song exists, the usual requests are "the chorus is too long, cut it down", "I want an instrumental version", or "I want it at a different tempo". Studio is the collection of tools for exactly those jobs. It works on songs that have already been generated, not on writing a new song from scratch.

How Studio differs from regular creation

ItemRegular creationStudio editing
InputLyrics or a text descriptionA song that already exists
OutputTwo brand-new songsA modified version or asset based on the original
Typical useMaking a song from zeroTrimming, changing speed, pulling a backing track, joining two songs

Put simply: regular creation writes the song, Studio turns the song into the version you want.

What Studio includes

Structure editing

  • Trim: keep a specified time range and cut the song down to a shorter section.
  • Delete a section: remove a passage in the middle and join the parts before and after it, useful for dropping a mistake or an extra verse.
  • Fade in / fade out: add a gradual change at the start or end so the transitions feel more natural.

Speed and direction

  • Change speed: speed the whole track up or slow it down, with pitch preserved, for a sped-up or a more relaxed version.
  • Reverse: flip the audio backwards, often used for transition effects or atmospheric build-ups.

Tracks and arrangement

  • Add backing: give an a cappella or vocal clip an instrumental arrangement.
  • Add vocals: add singing on top of instrumental music or a backing track.
  • Add a track: append an instrument track on command, for example drums or strings.
  • Vocal / instrumental separation: split a finished track into a vocal stem and a backing stem, handy for karaoke or remixing.

Recombining material

  • Mashup: combine material from two songs into one new piece.
  • Sample: take a section for a slice, sample or blend, with start and end times you specify.
  • Inspo: use a set of existing works as a style reference and generate new results from it.

The three most common use cases

  1. Music for a short video: take a three-minute song, cut it to the 30-second climax, then add a fade out.
  2. You need an instrumental: separate the finished track into vocals and backing, then take the backing stem.
  3. Combine two songs: use mashup to join two works in a similar style.

How the cost works

Studio operations are billed per use and are not part of a subscription. Two-stem separation is 0.6 yuan per run, twelve-stem separation is 3 yuan per run, and most other editing operations are 0.6 yuan per run. The page prompt shown when you submit is the final word. The original song itself is not affected: the edit produces a new record, and you can return to the original at any time.

A few practical tips

  • Listen through online before trimming and note the start and end points you want to keep, so the numbers you enter are accurate.
  • Keep speed changes between 0.8x and 1.25x; outside that range the result tends to sound distorted.
  • The separated vocals and backing are independent files that can be downloaded separately, without affecting the original song.
