Suno Style Influence and Weirdness: How to Set Both Sliders
Style influence and weirdness are Suno's two most overlooked sliders. See what each controls and which values to use for BGM, client work and experiments.
There are two sliders in Pro Mode that many people never touch: style influence and weirdness. One controls how closely the track follows the style tags you gave it; the other controls how many surprises the model is willing to hand you. Set them well and your hit rate goes up noticeably.
What each parameter controls

Short version: style influence governs "does it sound like it," weirdness governs "does it surprise you."

The right order for adjusting parameters
- Write the lyrics and style tags clearly first, with both sliders at their defaults. The result at this point reflects how good your text is.
- If the direction is wrong, change the text first instead of rushing to the sliders. When the text is unclear, moving sliders just drifts randomly.
- If the direction is right but not close enough, raise style influence by 0.1 to 0.2 and try once.
- If it sounds too samey, raise weirdness, changing only one parameter at a time so you can tell which one made the difference.
Three common mistakes
- Maxing out both: style influence at the top plus high weirdness often gives you "all the tags are there, but they don't hold together."
- Changing several variables at once: prompt, model and both sliders together means you can't locate the cause when something goes wrong.
- Using the sliders to hide lyric problems: unclear diction and rushed timing are lyric-structure issues, and sliders won't fix them.
